Duckweed Farm

50 duckweed containers are based at Aquila. Duckweed is an organic, low impact feed that we use to feed ARC’s Aquaponics Tilapia fish and chickens. It is cultivated in a controlled environment. It is a free, organic protein source.

Duckweed doubles in weight every three days. It is grown on-site, with no carbon footprint. Duckweed is generally uncontrollable, invasive and non-indigenous. Duckweed is removed from local dams in a conservation effort and is grown in controlled environments at Aquila.

Only several of the 50 duckweed containers are operational during the cold winter.
